Words of wisdom from The Don

Don Bradman Quote

Written on a single sheet from an early hinged autograph book, the batting prodigy has written;

“If it’s difficult
I’ll do it now
If it’s impossible
I’ll do it presently
D.G. Bradman        10.12.28”

Don Bradman was well known for his relaxed confidence in his own ability from an early age to the extent that he admitted to never suffering from any nerves or anxiety whatsoever when waiting to bat.

This statement, written just after he played his first Test match in November 1928 when he scored 18 & 1, and before he was dropped for the 2nd Test, shows a young man with stratospheric confidence levels – one could even suggest arrogance.

Elite sports-people reflect universally high levels of confidence. It is one of the traits that sets them apart from equally physically talented athletes who reflect moments of self-doubt.

The quote has since been blown up to a large sign that now sits atop the entrance door the change rooms for the NSW and Australian cricket teams at the SCG.

Thanks to Mark & David Gilbert for assisting us to secure this remarkable piece.

Is there a favourite quote that you think of in moments of possible self-doubt or when trying to instill confidence in yourself or in a team?
