Tickets have been selling fast for the first-ever International cricket match at Sydney Olympic Park. The match, which sees Australia take on India in a KFC T20 International on Wednesday 1 February, will look to break a record for the highest crowd to ever watch a cricket match in New South Wales.
That record of 58 446 was for the match between Australia and England at the SCG way back in 1928. With sales rapidly approaching that mark, it is hoped that fans at the ground for the match will be a part of history.
Cricket New South Wales and the NSW Government, through Destination New South Wales, have both combined to promote the match and have urged all fans to make their way to the ground on the night, to help break the record.
Cricket New South Wales Chairman Dr Harry Harinath was hopeful that this could be done: “It is tremendous that the community of Western Sydney have embraced the match as they have done. Ticket sales around the match have been excellent and we are hopeful of breaking the record of 58 446, for a cricket match played in New South Wales. That record was set in 1928, so it will be a magnificent achievement for both Sydney Olympic Park, and the cricket supporters of Sydney, to pack out the stadium for what will be the first-ever International cricket match played at the ground”.
Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris said it’s great to see such outstanding ticket sales for this first-ever international cricket match at Sydney Olympic Park in Western Sydney.
“I’m sure fans can’t wait to see the stars of the Australian and Indian T20 teams do battle in this fast, furious and immensely popular form of the game.
“The impressive ticket sales showed the ability of major sporting events to help the NSW Government achieve its goals to boost tourism in Sydney and NSW.
“The NSW Government through Destination NSW has been pleased to join with Cricket NSW in the marketing and promotion of this historic match.
“The Government’s support for key events such as this KFC T20 International helps build Australia’s leading events calendar in Australia’s leading tourism and events city”, the Minister said.
The match will start at 7-35pm next Wednesday night and fans are urged to plan their travel to the ground to arrive early.
The Australian and New Zealand women’s teams will take part in a curtain-raiser T20 International starting at 2:05pm.
Tickets for the match are still available at www.ticketek.com.
