Jack Marsh History Lecture – Sydney Cricket Ground
Wednesday 20 January
Legions of the curious,
The SCG Trust held its inaugural Jack Marsh Lecture last year at this time. Gideon Haigh spoke on the sublime and immortal Victor Trumper. Gideon’s address was worthy of the occasion.
The Jack Marsh Lecture series is named in honour of the indigenous NSW fast bowler Jack Marsh. The lecture, supported by a private benefaction, is designed to encourage curiosity-driven research into the history of our grounds.
This year Greg de Moore is speaking on the rich life of Tom Wills, Australian cricketer, coach of the first Aboriginal team to tour England in 1868 and architect of a curious form of football which enjoys a following in some parts of Australia. Greg is a psychologist. He has written on Tom Wills.
The lecture is entitled “Tom Wills: The First Wild Man of Australian Sport”.
