Cricket Australia have today announced the KFC T20 Big Bash League 04 schedule with the Sixers looking to set the SCG alight again over the summer holiday period.
The condensed schedule, with the tournament starting on 18 December and culminating in the Final on 28 January, will be played throughout the school holidays maximising the ability for young families to attend matches including the finals series.
The Sixers will celebrate the start of summer and the holiday period when they host an impressive looking Melbourne Renegades outfit at the SCG on Friday, 19 December, kicking the off the festive season with our iconic beach party.
The local derby is set to go up a notch with the Sixers heading to ANZ Stadium on Saturday 27 December for Sydney Smash 06 followed by Sydney Smash 07 at the SCG on Friday 9 January. With the Thunder active in the player recruitment market, the Sixers will again rely on the likes of Moises Henriques, Nic Maddinson, Mitchell Starc and Michael Lumb to remind their opponents who is the dominant team of Sydney.
The fierce rivalry with the Perth Scorchers will add another chapter when they travel to Sydney prior to New Year with the Sixers looking for payback after a scintillating super over match in the regular round followed by a rain affected semifinal elimination at the hands of their cross-country rivals in BBL|03.
The final home and away season match will see the Adelaide Strikers make their first trip to the SCG where the Sixers will look to maintain their dominance over the men in blue on their home turf.
“We’re really excited about the summer ahead and what we can achieve on and off the field,” said Sixers General Manager Dominic Remond.
“We really want to take the party to the next level at the SCG this season so we’re working on some new ideas and initiatives to ensure when people come to a Sixers match they enjoy a total entertainment experience.
“The schedule looks pretty good in allowing us the maximum opportunity to get plenty of families to our matches. We’re really looking forward to the summer ahead and playing our part in ensuring cricket remains Australia’s favourite sport.”
The Sixers will travel to Hobart on Tuesday 23 December to play the Hurricanes, the MCG on Monday 5 January to take on the Melbourne Stars and the Gabba on Sunday 11 January against the Brisbane Heat.
