The Australian School Sport team traveled to Colombo. The boys were looking resplendent in their white shirt and SSA tie and black trousers and shoes.
The High Commissioner, Robyn Mudie, was in attendance as well as the Assistant High Commissioner. Other guests included some players and officials of the Sri Lanka U17 team, some members of the Sri Lanka Cricket Board, former Sri Lanka International and Test players and local cricket identities.
Blake Parsons presented a signed SSA polo, CA top and a Bradman Foundation tie to the High Commissioner.

SSA won the toss and batted. Aggressive batting from the openers resulted in numerous4’s & 6’s on the short boundary. The big hitting Gutsche was out for 47 in the 9th over with the score on 84. With the score on 113, the other opener,Kyle Giniotis was dismissed for 29. At the second drinks break the score had moved to 4/178. When the powerful hitting Matthew Gilkes was dismissed for 66 off 24 balls SSA was 6/250 with 8 overs remaining. By the end of the 50th over SSA was 8/304, including 23 extras.

Sri Lanka began their run chase at 2.10pm. In the 4th over of their innings Sri Lanka was 1/18. Wickets continued to fall regularly and at the second drinks break they were 9/148. A spirited effort by their captain, Dineth Madurawala, raised their score to 184 before he was caught on the boundary for 79.

Southern Provinces U17 at N.C.C. Colombo
We can take a lot of learning from this first hit out for the rest of the matches. Monsoonal rain forced the change of our opening game from Galle to the Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo.
SSA, Param Uppal, won the toss and batted. The umpires, Mr. D.N. Puthiruni and Mr. M. Jeshadriya commenced at 10am under a little cloud cover and with an expected top temperature of 39.
Openers Burrows and Gutsche scored 28 in the first 6 overs before Gutsche was caught behind for 13. Spin was introduced in the 9th over. At the first drinks break after 17 overs the score had reached 79 for the loss of 1wicket. By the second drinks break SSA was 6/112. In the remaining 6.1 overs SSA lost their remaining 4 wickets for 12 runs to finish in the 41 over on 124.
The Southern Province commenced the run chase after a 30 minute lunch break. Their captain and opener retired on 52. The target score was reached in the 24 over having lost 3 wickets.

Detour to visit the baby elephants
Today the team travelled to the Hill Country village of Kapukiphula. They visited the Glenloch Tea Factory and Plantation. The boys saw the process from picking to packing. They had the opportunity to taste a freshly brewed cup of GLenloch black tea. A pool session was held with the physio in the afternoon at the hotel in preparation for two T20 games tomorrow.

Today we returned to Asgiriya International Stadium where we played two T20 games yesterday. The Australian bowlers bowled good length and were on task throughout most of the Central Provinces innings having them 6/123 in the 28th over. A few good partnerships in their lower order see them reach 203 in the 46th.

Today was the first day of the 2 day game at Singhalese Sports Ground against the Sri Lanka U17 Cricket Academy.
Param Uppal won the toss and batted. The track was the same one that SSA scored 300 on last week and was not expected to hold any surprises. Australia lost its first wicket when 16 in the seventh. Two overs they were 2/24. With a silly run out of opener Gutsche,32 Australia was 3/50 in the 18th. Australia went to lunch at 4/84 after 26 overs.
Spoors was out shortly after play resumed, 5/91. The 100 came up in the 32nd over. With the dismissal of Gilkes in the next over, SSA was 6/103. At the drinks break, 40 overs, the score was 6/123, GIniotis12, De Manuri 5. The score reached 7/126 when De Manuri was out in the 48th. 8/140, 9/140 in the 55th. Tea was delayed until 3.10 pm with the score at 9/155.
The players enjoyed a cup of tea and cake during the break. Australia lost its last wicket in the first over after the tea break, 10/155 in 66 overs! Including 22 extras.

Overnight rain and the ground condition caused the umpires to delay the start time of the day’s play. Play commenced at 10.30. At the first drinks break Sri Lanka was 6/102.
With aggressive field placings by SSA, they lost their last 4 wickets for 16 runs, to be all out just before lunch for 118, giving Australia a lead of 37. Australia commenced its second innings with Burrowes and Gilkes. Burrows was out in the 4, SSA 1/15, Giniotis out next ball 2/15. At drinks SSA had moved to 3/48.
After loosing 2 when on 68 and 2 on 88, SSA went to tea at 8/92 after 27 overs. A partnership of 40 between DeManuri & Merlo took the score to 9/130. DeManuri was run out the next over with the score still on 130.
Sri Lanka were set 168 to win off 15 overs. Chojnowski took the new ball and claimed a wicket in his first over 1/0. The other opener was soon dismissed, 2/12. Sippel claimed the 3rd 3/31.
SSA 155 and 129 defeated Sri Lanka 118 and 3/35.
