Pace bowler Gurinder Sandhu is the only change to the NSW Blues squad for their Ryobi Cup clash with the Victorian Bushrangers at North Sydney Oval on Sunday. Sandhu, replaces Doug Bollinger who was yesterday suspended for breaching the CA Code of Behaviour in the RYOBI One Day Cup match between the NSW Blues and Queensland Bulls.
The match is crucial after the NSW Blues lost yesterday’s match against Queensland at North Sydney Oval, meaning that they are now in 4th place, three points behind Tasmania in third.
The squad is:
Steve Smith (Captain)
Sean Abbott
Gurinder Sandhu
Josh Hazlewood
Nathan Lyon
Nic Maddinson
Peter Nevill
Stephen O’Keefe
Kurtis Patterson
Ben Rohrer
Trent Copeland
David Warner
The promotion of the match has been dedicated to the Transport for NSW Plan B campaign.
The campaign is part of the overall sponsorship between Cricket NSW and Transport for NSW that has entered into its 12th season, making it one of the longest-running sponsorships in Australian sport and the longest ever major sponsorship in Australian domestic cricket.
The Plan B message is:
- Plan your journey home before you head out.
- Catch public transport, call a taxi or ring a friend to come and get you. There’s no excuse for drink-driving.
- Some Plan Bs are smarter than others, but any Plan B beats drinking and driving.
- In NSW, drink-driving kills more than 50 people and injures more than 1,000 every year.
- In the most recent statistics, 80 per cent of the drink-drivers involved in fatal crashes are men. Three quarters of them are aged under 40.
- These deaths are all the more heartbreaking because they are 100 per cent avoidable.
As part of the awareness for this Sunday’s game, Transport for NSW has a number of key activations planned. These include:
- A big Plan B marquee inside the ground that has a photo booth and giveaways – NSW players will also be visiting the marquee to sign some autographs.
- A film crew will also be roving around chatting with spectators and asking them what’s their Plan B to get home. Fans might find themselves starring alongside NSW Blues in a new team video.
