Rain washes out Lend Lease Breakers and Victoria clash

Today’s Women’s T20 match between the Lend Lease Breakers and Victoria at Blacktown International Sportspark has ended in a draw after bad weather intervened (December 4).

The match started in bright sunshine with Victoria winning the toss and electing to bat. They found themselves in early trouble at 3-20, however, an 85 run fourth wicket stand between Jess Cameron and Kelly Applebee got them back on track.

Cameron made 56 from 51 balls, earning her the Player of the Match Award, with Applebee out for 34 from 40. The Victorians were 6-128 with two balls left in their innings when a heavy storm, including hail, hit the ground.

After a delay of over an hour, the Lend Lease Breakers were set 42 runs to win from five overs under the Duckworth-Lewis Method. However, only one over was completed with NSW 0-6 when more heavy rain arrived.

Today’s outcome sees the Lend Lease Breakers move to 14 competition points with six wins and two no results. They defeated Victoria by eight wickets in their first WT20 match on Friday (December 2) then won yesterday’s (December 3) Women’s National Cricket League 50-over match by 38 runs.

The Lend Lease Breakers play their next round of matches at home against Queensland from December 16-18. All matches will be played at Drummoyne Oval with the WT20 matches on December 16 and 18, with a 50 over game on December 17.
