Match Summary – NSW vs Western Australia, Bupa Sheffield Shield
Newcastle No.1 Sportsground, Day One
The NSW Blues have finished day one of their Bupa Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia on 6-189 after rain and poor light forced an early finish to play.
Peter Nevill (49) and Stephen O’Keefe (18no) were at the crease when rain forced players from the field at 4:30pm, with the pair putting on 50 runs for the seventh wicket.
Earlier in the day, NSW captain Moises Henriques won the toss and elected to bat first, only for the Blues to lose Ryan Carters (2), Scott Henry (17) and Nic Maddinson (11) in the opening session.
Debutant David Moody did most of the damage, removing Henry in his first over of First Class cricket before claiming the scalp of Maddinson before lunch.
The second session also belonged to Western Australia with the Blues losing Kurtis Patterson (35) shortly after the break, with Henriques (27) and Sean Abbott (25) also falling during the session.
Nevill and O’Keefe then dug in for the shortened last session before the rain arrived.
David Moody, the nephew of Western Australian legend Tom, was the pick of the Western Australian bowlers with 3-30 from 12 overs with Nathan Coulter-Nile (2-32) and Ashton Agar (1-29) the other wicket takers.
