Cricket NSW has confirmed Nick Cummins as the new General Manager of the Sydney Thunder.

Cummins brings with him significant experience in brand strategy, product development, digital marketing, sponsorship and public relations after holding senior roles at Betfair, Ford and Foster’s Australia. He also spent seven years in player management with Elite Sports Properties, and is currently developing a National Corporate Hospitality Program for Cricket Australia.

Cummins’ vision is to create “Thunder Nation” in Western Sydney and the Thunder regions of country NSW.

“It is crucial that we give the people of Western Sydney a cricket club they love and a team they’re proud of. Our goal is to be a central part of the Western Sydney summer,” said Cummins.

“I am confident that the team will turn around our on-field results in BBL|03. Michael Clarke, Mike Hussey and Dirk Nannes provide enormous skill and experience, while Thunder region products like Gurinder Sandhu, Chris Tremain and Ryan Carters provide local heroes our fans can be proud of. We will continue to strengthen our roster as the season approaches.

“It is an exciting time and a great challenge. I hope to see all the Sydney Thunder Members and fans get behind us to help create a wonderful atmosphere at ANZ Stadium this summer,” he said.

There was overwhelming interest in the Sydney Thunder General Manager position with over 80 applicants, and Cricket NSW Chief Executive Andrew Jones said Cummins was the stand-out candidate.

“It was a rigorous interview process and Nick was the standout candidate,” said Jones.

“At Cricket NSW we talk about the ‘5Es’ – Excellence, Ethics, Energy, Engagement and Enjoyment. Nick rates highly on all these criteria and will be a terrific leader of the Thunder.”

Cummins is from Melbourne originally and will move to Sydney for the role. In his words “you can’t choose where you’re born, but you can choose where you live, and that for me is Western Sydney”.

Nick Cummins will officially commence in his new role in early September.
