NIC MADDINSON NAMED SIXERS PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT

Nic Maddinson has tonight been named the Sydney Sixers Player of the Tournament at the Cricket NSW annual Steve Waugh Meda.

Maddinson, who played every match of BBL03, was the Sixers leading run scorer with 211 runs at an average of 26.38.

He faced tough competition with Josh Hazlewood, the Sixers leading wicket taker with 14 for the season, Brett Lee, with season best figures of 4/28, and Michael Lumb, with a top score of 56, all faring well in the voting.

Having donned the Magenta since BBL01, Maddinson played a number of standout innings in the top order including a season high of 61 in the first match against cross town rivals, the Sydney Thunder in Sydney Smash 04, followed by a 59 not out in the return derby, Sydney Smash 05.

In the rain affected Semi Final, played at the SCG, he almost batted the Sixers to a win, scoring 36 of the 54 runs required in a reduced five over innings. With batsman falling around him, Maddinson was composed and dominant, smashing his runs off 16 balls until he was run out on the second last ball of the match scrambling for a double. The Sixers fell just six runs short of the total and a spot in the Big Final.

While only 22, he has become one of the core players for the magenta men and is highly regarded both in this format and the longer forms.

The Sixers Player of the Tournament is peer chosen award based on a 3-2-1 voting system.
