Michael Clarke to step aside from the Sydney Thunder

Australian captain Michael Clarke has decided to step aside from his role with the Sydney Thunder for next season due to the huge International summer of cricket.

Clarke, who has been part of the Thunder squad since season two of the KFC T20 Big Bash, has decided that due to the scheduling of the upcoming summer with a Commonwealth Bank Test Series against India, Carlton Mid One Day Series and ICC Cricket World Cup, there would be extremely limited opportunities to turn out in Thunder colours and it was therefore in the best interests of the club if his position in the squad be made available to another player:

โ€œHaving looked at the fixture list for the upcoming summer it became apparent that my opportunities to play for the Thunder would be extremely limited. I think it is in the best interests of the club if I make myself unavailable for selection this season and allow the Thunder the chance to offer a contract to a younger player who would really benefit from the opportunity. I will continue to support the club and monitor the situation in future seasons regarding availability.โ€
