This season will be a big one for the NSW Blues and Lend Lease Breakers.

The Blues will continue this season promoting the NSW Government’s Plan B drink-driving campaign, which says you can enjoy a drink on a night out, but you should plan your way home – your Plan B – before you head out.

The campaign was supported by the NSW Blues players last season, and they will continue to remind cricket fans to find a safe Plan B this season – through media appearances, online content and grassroots outreach to local and regional cricket clubs.

“We achieve a lot through our relationship with Cricket NSW,” Transport for NSW Acting Director-General Tony Braxton-Smith said.

“The players are fantastic ambassadors who deliver important road safety messages with credibility throughout the state, reminding young men in particular about staying safe on the road.

“We’re particularly excited that this season sees our sponsorship involve the Sydney Sixers and Sydney Thunder Twenty20 Big Bash teams for the first time,” Mr Braxton-Smith said.

The name change from “NSW SpeedBlitz Blues” to “NSW Blues” under the renewed sponsorship demonstrates the sponsorship’s focus shifting from speed to drink-driving.

This will extend the partnership a further three years to at least 14 years, having commenced in December 2002.

Cricket NSW Chief Executive Andrew Jones was equally excited about the opportunity to continue the association with Transport for NSW: “We are extremely fortunate to have created such an outstanding partnership with Transport for NSW and are delighted to be able to promote the Plan B message this coming season.

“Research has shown that the messages about the dangers of drink-driving have had an effect on the number of incidents that we are seeing on our roads and we strongly believe in the importance of education in this area.”

It will be a vital month for the NSW Blues with the first-ever Ryobi Cup played in one city.

Sydney will host all States over the next four weeks in a feast of cricket played at the best suburban grounds across town.

The NSW Blues will start their campaign on Sunday at Bankstown Oval when they take on Tasmania (9-30am).

The Lend Lease Breakers will also be looking to create further history this season, aiming to repeat the double from last year and win their 9th WNCL title in a row.

They continue to set the benchmark for women’s team sport in this country.
