Mark Cosgrove returns for Qualifying Finals – Sydney First Grade Preview

Sydney Sixers and Tasmanian top order batsman, Mark Cosgrove, has been named in the Mosman squad for this weekend’s First Grade Qualifying Final against Randwick Petersham at Coogee Oval (March 22-23).

Cosgrove qualified for the Sydney Grade Finals Series after playing five games for Mosman in-between representing the Sydney Sixers in the KFC T20 Big Bash League. In that time he scored 126 runs at 31.5 with a top score of 76.

He joins former Australian, NSW and Tasmania off-spinner, Jason Krezja, in a Mosman team that includes medium pacer Adam Wasyluk, who with 39 wickets ranks as one of the top five bowlers in First Grade.

Cosgrove and Krejza are just two of several players with First Class experience taking part in this weekend’s matches.

Sydney University have Greg Mail and Scott Henry while their opposition, Bankstown, feature former New Zealand fast bowler Daryl Tuffey in their line-up.

Penrith have included NSW Blues fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Josh Lalor who will line-up against Manly-Warringah’s Tim Cruickshank and Adam Crosthwaite.

Other players to watch this weekend include the First Grade Player of the Year, Patrick Jackson, who earlier this week became the first Penrith player to win the Carlton Mid O’Reilly Medal, while Sydney University bowlers Tim Ley and Nigel Cowell are the equal leading wicket takers in First Grade.

A first innings result is enough for a team to win their Qualifying Final with the three winners, along with the highest ranked losing team, progressing through to next weekend’s Semi Finals.

In the event the match ends in a draw or is abandoned, the higher placed team will progress.

Play in match will start at 10am each day.
