Lend Lease Breakers remain undefeated with win over ACT

An unbeaten half-century to Ellyse Perry and three wickets to Kara Sutherland has helped the Lend Lease Breakers to a six wicket win over the ACT Meteors in this morning’s Women’s T20 match at Robertson Oval in Wagga Wagga.

ACT captain Kris Britt won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first on a pitch that had provided plenty of runs during the first two days. However, they were immediately put on the back foot when Kara Sutherland removed Sara Hungerford (9) and Kris Britt (0) in the second over. Jenny Taffs (14) and Rene Farrell (13) added 30 runs for the third wicket but they also fell in quick succession to leave the ACT 4-46 in the 12th over.

At one stage it looked like the Meteors would struggle to post more than a 100 before a 42 run partnership between Nicola Browne and Katie Mack added some respectability to the score. Browne took the lead in the resurgence with 28 runs off 24 balls while Mack finished unbeaten on 31 runs off 26 deliveries.

The ACT finished their 20 overs on 5-110 with Kara Sutherland (3-18) and Sarah Aley (2-21) the wicket takers for NSW, while Ellyse Perry produced the miserly figures of 0-9 off four overs.

The Lend Lease Breakers lost openers Alyssa Healy (4) and Leah Poulton (1) early in their chase but quickly got back on track through Rachael Haynes (21) and Alex Blackwell (20).

They put on 43 runs for the third wicket before a 40 run partnership between Haynes and Ellyse Perry put the game beyond doubt.

Perry was NSW’s top scorer for the match, finishing unbeaten on 56 off 48 deliveries, including six boundaries.

Today’s win caps off another successful weekend for the Lend Lease Breakers who are yet to drop a match this season. They have so far achieved clean sweeps of their rounds against Tasmania and the ACT while winning two games against Victoria, with the third match abandoned due to rain.

Their next assignment will be against Queensland at Blacktown International Sportspark (December 6-8). This round will include a replay of last summer’s WNCL 50 over Final which was won by NSW.
