The draws for the 2012/13 Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) and Women’s T20 (WT20) competitions were revealed today with the Lend Lease Breakers to play all of their home games at Blacktown International Sportspark.
The Lend Lease Breakers are the reigning champions in the WNCL (50 over) competition, having won the last seven consecutive titles, while they have also finished runners-up to Victoria in the WT20 for the last three years.
This summer, the Lend Lease Breakers will base themselves at Blacktown International Sportspark for their three rounds of home matches. Their first games for the season will be the ‘local derby’ against the ACT (October 19-21), followed by Western Australia (November 23-25) and Tasmania (December 7-9). Each round will consist of two WT20 matches and a WNCL fixture.
Blacktown International Sportspark will also host the Semi Finals and Final of the WNCL competition.
This is the first time Semi Finals have been played in the WNCL, with these extra matches introduced to give players additional opportunities to prove themselves to selectors ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup, which starts in India at the end of February.
The Lend Lease Breakers will play their away rounds this season against Queensland (October 26-28), South Australia (December 21-23) and Victoria (January 4 – 6).
Two of their WT20 matches against South Australia (December 23) and Victoria (January 6) will be played as double headers during the KFC T20 Big Bash League, while the Final on January 19 is also scheduled as a double header with the BBL|02 decider.
New Lend Lease Breakers Head Coach, Joanne Broadbent, said the season’s draw would provide a challenge for the team.
“We open the competition with a tough round of matches against the ACT at home before a difficult away trip to face Queensland. However, this is an excellent chance to hit the ground running and build momentum early in the season.”
