Fighting win for Lend Lease Breakers

The Lend Lease Breakers recorded an exciting and hard fought 25 run win over Western Australia in a low scoring Women’s T20 match at Blacktown International Sportspark this afternoon.

Defending just 114, the Lend Lease Breakers bowled Western Australia out for 89 in the 19th over. The visitors were well placed in their chase at 4-81, only to lose their last six wickets for just eight runs!

Player of the Match, Lisa Sthalekar, was one of the keys to the victory with the veteran allrounder finishing with the outstanding figures of 2-11 from four overs. Sharon Millanta was just as impressive with the opening bowler taking 2-13, including the key wicket of Western Australian captain, Nicole Bolton.

Sarah Aley was the other multiple wicket taker with 2-20 while wicketkeeper, Alyssa Healy, was dynamic behind the stumps, finishing with three catches, a stumping and a direct hit run out to her name.

The Lend Lease Breakers needed a big effort in the field after a below par performance with the bat where they made just 5-114 from their 20 overs after being sent in.

Leah Poulton was impressive at the top of the order, making 25 runs from 23 balls before falling to a spectacular catch by Nicole Bolton at mid-off.

Lisa Sthalekar fought hard in the middle of the innings for her 23 runs from 27 deliveries before Alex Blackwell played a vital knock at the death to get her team over 100, finishing 29 not out from 21 balls.

Today’s win maintains the Lend Lease Breakers unbeaten start to the season, with these two points taking them to the outright lead at the top of the Women’s T20 competition ladder.

The Lend Lease Breaker and Western Australia meet again tomorrow (November 24) in a Women’s National Cricket League 50 over match before a second T20 fixture on Sunday (November 25). Both games start at 10am and entry is free.
