Star English batsman Eoin Morgan is to return to the Sydney Thunder for BBL|04, in a major boost for the club.

The current captain of the English T20 side and one of the most innovative batsmen in world cricket, Morgan attended the launch of Mazda as the Principal sponsor of the Thunder for this season at their showrooms in Botany.

Morgan was a major hit for the Thunder last season, playing in four matches in BBL|03, where he scored 118 runs at 29.50, with a strike rate of 125.53.

The 28 year-old left-hander will form part of an impressive international Thunder top order that will include Usman Khawaja, Jacques Kallis and Mike Hussey.

Morgan will play the first four matches for the Thunder before joining the England squad for the World Cup. His replacement as overseas player will be named in the coming weeks.

Thunder General Manager Nick Cummins saw the day as an important one for the club.

“Having someone of Eoin’s ability return this season is a major boost for the club. He showed during BBL|03 that he is a quality player who knows how to deliver in big games. He is a great fit within our group because of his winning attitude and experience.”
“We are also delighted to welcome Mazda on board as our Principal sponsor. They are an outstanding company with a worldwide reputation for excellence – a great fit in terms of what we are building with the Thunder.”

Mazda NSW State Manager Chris McCullam said “Sydney Thunder have grown their fan base every year since their inception and signing up as principal sponsor provides the opportunity to showcase the Mazda brand to a growing national audience. We look forward to our association with Sydney Thunder and wish them the very best for the upcoming Big Bash campaign.”
