Cricket NSW today announced the formation of the Cricket NSW Academy charged with continuing the task of developing Australia’s Future Heroes.

The Cricket NSW Academy is a State wide program responsible for the identification and development of talented male and female cricketers. The Academy Male Program will run in the U/13 – U/19 age groups with the Female Programs for players from U/13 – U/18s. The Academy will also work with invited players to continue their development after graduating from underage squads.

Replacing the Emerging Blues and Emerging Breakers programs, the Cricket NSW Academy aims to offer a clear and consistent program that is always preparing players for the next challenge in their career.

The Academy will provide the same opportunities to players living in both Sydney Metro and regional areas of the State, providing young cricketers with access to the highest calibre coaches, sports science staff and facilities, as well as mentoring from elite players.

“The Cricket NSW Academy Program focuses on developing the skills of young players as they progress through the Player Pathway,” said Cricket NSW General Manager, State Cricket Department, David Thompson.

“Players will have access to the full expertise of Cricket NSW staff throughout their development to ensure that every young cricketer has the best possible chance to achieve their dreams of representing NSW and Australia.”

Cricket NSW already has an outstanding record with talent identification and development, with current NSW and Australian players like Michael Clarke, David Warner, Patrick Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Ellyse Perry, Sarah Coyte, Erin Osborne and Alyssa Healy all graduates of the Emerging Blues and Emerging Breakers Programs.

To be selected for a Cricket NSW Academy Program, players must first be nominated through their local district or school association. Players are then invited to attend trials with the successful applicants undertaking an intensive training program over a 12 month period.
