The Lend Lease Breakers have won today’s WT20 game at Manly Oval by six wickets to complete a clean sweep of their round of matches against South Australia.
South Australia won the toss and elected to bat, posting 4-122 from 19 overs in a rain affected innings, thanks largely to a 106 run second wicket partnership between Julie Woerner and Shelley Nitschke. The pair started slowly but unleashed an impressive array of shots after the rain delay. Woerner made 57 from 53 balls with six fours and one six, while Nitschke hit 48 from 46 balls with two fours and two sixes.
For the Lend Lease Breakers, Ellyse Perry bowled brilliantly to finish with 0-11 from her four over spell, while Sharon Millanta claimed two wickets with Lisa Sthalekar and Sarah Coyte grabbing one each.
A revision under the Duckworth Lewis Method meant the Lend Lease Breakers needed 124 from 19 overs to win the match. Openers Leah Poulton (28) and Alyssa Healy (17) put on 45 runs for the first wicket but both were dismissed within a few balls of each other.
After claiming Player of the Match honours with the ball the day before, Sthalekar produced an identical performance with the bat today to get her team home, hitting 48 from 29 balls with six boundaries. Unfortunately she lost her wicket within only a few runs needed to win, however they quickly came from the bat of Sarah Coyte with 15 balls to spare.
Today’s result was the Lend Lease Breakers fourth win from as many starts in the WT20 competition. They have also won their two WNCL matches and sit on top of both competition tables.
The team now has a few weeks off before their next games in Canberra against the ACT Meteors (November 25-27).
