Chinese cricketers to receive Ministerial Reception

Tomorrow, (18 Sept), three cricketers from the Chinese National team, will receive a formal Ministerial reception by the Minister for Citizenship and Communities the Hon. Victor Dominello MP, and the Minister for Sport and Recreation the Hon. Graham Annesley MP, at the Jubilee Room, Parliament of NSW, Macquarie Street, Sydney.

The visiting cricketers are involved in the Cricket NSW Mosaic Programs “International Cricket Exchange”, as part of which Cricket NSW is committed to growing cricket at home and abroad.

The purpose of the exchange is to engage in mutually beneficial activities with ICC affiliates and Associate nations.

This year the exchange is with China, where Cricket is a rapidly growing game, particularly capturing the interest of a rising Chinese middle class.

Cricket NSW Chairman, Dr Harry Harinath OAM said “We are delighted to have our inaugural “International Cricket Exchange” with China. It provides us with an opportunity to contribute to the development and growth of cricket at an international level. Through the visiting players we will be showing Australian’s of Chinese heritage that cricket is truly an International game for everyone, and something for their children to enjoy and take part in. This represents a wonderful opportunity for Cricket NSW to grow the game at home and abroad”.

The exchange will see six Chinese International cricketers stay in Sydney and enjoy training and playing opportunities with Grade and Shires clubs. Whilst in Australia the players will also be involved in Cricket NSW community engagement activities,

In the first round of exchanges Cricket NSW will host the following players from September 8 to October 21:

Wang Jing, Taizhou Cricket Association
Zhang Peng, Shanghai Cricket Association
Zhao Gaoshen, Shanghai Cricket Association

Cricket NSW, in partnership with the Minister for Citizenship and Communities the Hon. Victor Dominello MP and the Minister for Sport and Recreation the Hon. Graham Annesley MP, will host a Ministerial reception on Tuesday September 18, at the Jubilee Room, Parliament of NSW, Macquarie Street, Sydney. The reception will commence at 3:30pm and feature an official welcome, press conference and afternoon tea for players, community and business leaders and media personnel.

On the same day, between 9am and 11am the players will be involved in the delivery of a cricket NSW program at Hurstville Public School.
