20/20 Cricket Matches
Bowral v Cootamundra
Bradman Oval, Bowral
Sunday 15th February 2015
Game 1 – 10 am, Game 2 – 2.30 pm
Joe Roberts was born at Bowral Hospital in 2005. After a seemingly normal pregnancy, Joe was unwell at birth and flown to Sydney. Joe was found to have contracted cytomegalovirus (CMV) in-utero and as a result of this viral infection he suffers brain damage, cerebral palsy and global developmental delay in all areas. Joe’s medical needs are ongoing; however, the main priority at present is supporting Joe and his family in purchasing a modified wheelchair accessible vehicle.
The idea for a cricket match between Bowral and Cootamundra developed from the fact that Joe was born in Bowral and lives in Cootamundra (the opposite of Sir Donald!). Joe’s mum, Jodie (Bofinger), grew up at Robertson and attended school in Bowral. Her parents Bruce and Judi still reside in the Southern Highlands. Joe’s dad, Scott, represented Cootamundra in two Bradman Letter games as a junior cricketer in 1987 and 1988. So it seems fitting for these two great cricketing rivals to ‘square off’ to support young Joe!
Joe attends Elouera Special School in Cootamundra. Joe has no speech, but has an infectious laugh! Joe’s mobility is limited, but he loves getting out and about with his two brothers and sister, particularly to the beach. Joe also loves swimming in the pool and bouncing on the trampoline!
Joe appreciates the care and support of the both the Bowral and Cootamundra communities and hopes to see you at Bradman Oval in February.
