The Lend Lease Breakers’ Australian representatives will re-join the NSW squad for this weekend’s round of Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) and Women’s T20 (WT20) matches against South Australia in Adelaide (December 21-23).
NSW are currently on top of both competition tables. They have won all eight of their WT20 matches and all four WNCL fixtures. In fact, the Lend Lease Breakers have won their last 22 WNCL games in a row, with their record winning streak dating back to Round Seven of the 2009/10 season.
The players selected in the Lend Lease Breakers squad to play South Australia are (club/region in brackets):
Alex Blackwell (captain – Universities/Riverina)
Rachael Haynes (vice-captain – Universities)
Sarah Aley (Bankstown Sports)
Nicola Carey (St George-Sutherland)
Sarah Coyte (Campbelltown-Camden)
Alyssa Healy (Sydney)
Claire Koski (Campbelltown-Camden)
Sharon Millanta (Bankstown Sports)
Erin Osborne (St George-Sutherland/Central North)
Leah Poulton (St George-Sutherland/Newcastle)
Angela Reakes (Sydney/North Coast)
Lisa Sthalekar (Gordon)
Kara Sutherland (Universities/North Coast)
Blackwell, Haynes, Healy, Millanta, Sthalekar, Osborne, Poulton and Coyte were all involved in Australia’s 3-1 Rose Bowl series victory over New Zealand. Ellyse Perry was also part of that squad, however, she will miss this weekend’s matches after sustaining an ankle injury.
Lend Lease Breakers and Australian allrounder, Lisa Sthalekar, said the squad was looking forward to reassembling ahead of this weekend’s games.
“As Australian players we are always excited to come back to the Lend Lease Breakers. We’ve had a great start to the season with 12 consecutive wins across both formats, and we’ve won our last 22 straight WNCL matches. That’s a very special streak and one we want to maintain as long as possible,” she said.
“The business end of our domestic season starts now. We’ve got South Australia this weekend, followed by Victoria in the New Year and then Finals. So it is vital that we start building momentum now,” she added.
The Lend Lease Breakers travel to Adelaide tomorrow morning (December 21) with their first match against South Australia a T20 fixture at Prospect Oval starting that afternoon at 3pm.
They will then play a WNCL match at Prospect Oval on Saturday (December 22, 10am) before a second T20 match on Sunday (December 23, 3pm).
Sunday’s match will be played at the Adelaide Oval as a curtain raiser before the KFC T20 Big Bash League match between the Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers.
