The Lend Lease Breakers defeated Western Australia by 151 runs today in their Women’s National Cricket League match at Blacktown International Sportspark, with the bonus point victory spearheaded by a fine century from captain and Player of the Match, Alex Blackwell.
Winning the toss, Blackwell had no hesitation in deciding to bat on a flat pitch with a lightning fast outfield, with her team piling on an impressive 3-312 off their 50 overs.
The skipper led the way with a brilliant 112 not out from 97 balls, with her innings including 14 fours. It was her seventh WNCL century, taking her into equal second on the list of most WNCL tons alongside Belinda Clark and Mel Bulow.
Blackwell shared in a 133 run third wicket stand with Lisa Sthalekar, who made 74 from 70 deliveries, while opener Leah Poulton hit an even 50 at the top of the order.
In reply, Western Australia was bowled out for 161 in the 49th over. NSW needed to restrict the visitors to 156 or less to pick up two bonus points, but in end they had to settle for just the one.
The wickets were shared equally amongst the Lend Lease Breakers bowlers, with Sharon Millanta (2-26), Erin Osborne (2-20) and Nicola Carey (2-7) the multiple wicket takers.
Today’s victory takes the Lend Lease Breakers to 14.5 competition points from three games, meaning they now leap frog both Queensland and Western Australia and go to the top of the WNCL competition ladder.
