Former Bradman Chairman Michael Ball AO
Michael was instrumental and highly successful in the fund-raising, planning and construction of the rejuvenated Bradman Museum to include The International Cricket Hall of Fame – which was opened in November 2010.
In 2003 he joined the Board of the Bradman Foundation and became Chairman in 2007, serving a record four terms (8 Years).
Having built a highly successful career over several decades in the iconic advertising US-based agency Ogilvy & Mather, Michael eventually returned to Australia to develop his interests in breeding Stud Angus Cattle, Ornithology, massed tree planting and preserving Australia’s built environment through his work on the Board of National Trust. In this role he also led the 100 Living Treasures Committee, which lists and monitors the 100 individuals officially classed as ‘living national treasures’.
In the early 2000’s he became Chairman of the National Capital Authority responsible for the Management of the National Capital Plan which included the oversight of several national cultural institutions and significant public spaces in the nation’s capital.
In 2002 Michael was awarded a Member of the Order of Australia and in the Australia Day Honours list of 2016 was upgraded to the Officer of the Order of Australia ‘for distinguished service to the community through leadership roles with major urban planning and heritage preservation organisations, and to the promotion of the history of cricket’.
Current Bradman foundation Chairman Mr Maurice Newman AC said ‘We are greatly indebted to Michael’s vision, boundless energy and enthusiasm for the Museum Project. On behalf of the Board, Staff and Volunteers of the Foundation we express our sincere condolences to his wife Daria and the wider Ball Family’.
